This letter had been written at the end of the 20th century, for the national movement of Georgia. Later I’ve made some changes in it. I think Georgians and other nations, especially Europeans nowadays, in 2019 have similar problems. I think we must share thoughts of our national movement with our European brothers. For this reason, I’ve shortened the letter and made it more understandable for representatives of other nations. So we’ll better understand each other. We have the same fate and must overcome new challenges together. We must save our nations and Europe. Author Ilia Chavchavadze is the great national and public figure of Georgia, ideologist and leader of national liberation movement,sainted by Georgian Church (Saint Ilia Righteous).He formulated motto of national Movement of Georgia: “homeland, language, faith”. This motto still expresses the three main postulates of national movement. These postulates we may name as referring to the vertical direction that strengthen and complement each other.  | | Ilia Chavchavadze | he homeland is the life range, geographic environment for the nation. Nation – the social unit, being actually a divine one, never creates without it. Native country, the homeland is the only place where the nation can live and survive during centuries and millenniums, from Deluge to Deluge, to Second Advent. Generations born, deed and are buried here. Each span of earth, each grave, building and ruin, each cultivated plant, each river, and mountain keep memory of something consciously and unconsciously common and dear. This is that very ground, the clay, from which Lord created Adam and into which turned holy bones of our ethnarchs. Territories of our countries are defined by God and this is stated historically. So ceding even a span of this land to the enemy we squander and betray Gift of God. Language. Language is the tool of communication with the best meaning of this word. We speak each to other, to passed away and coming generations by means of our common language. In native language, we appeal to God and God converses with us in our language. Language is the best mean of self-expression. Our languages are quite rich and we may excellently express everything by means of the
 | | Gaioz Mamaladze | m, including Holy Gospel and masterpieces of literature. Faith. Christianity is the faith, which we’ve got easily. We’d waited for it; we’d been prepared for it. Unlike others we always used to believe that the woman is a human too, that she also has a soul, that woman and man are equal. We believed that there may be the blameless woman, the Mother and for we became able to recognize holy maiden. We thought if God exists then Immaculate Conception is possible to happen. And we’ve believed in the word of God. We knew if we live here we may live in the afterlife too and trusted in Savior. We were honest people and believed that for Savior it was actually painful to be whipped and crucified. For he atoned for our sins and gifted eternal life to us by his pain, torture, crucifixion, and resurrection. Each faith is good and helps men to be closer to God. But in our opinion for us, our faith is the most perfect, the most human. Self-sacrifice for Christianity of passed away generations were not only stubbornness or brevity. It had been determined by wisdom generated by past generations. As we’ve said, above-named formula of great Ilia Chavchavadze “homeland, language, faith” still stays as the immortal postulates for Christian nations. This formula expresses the vertical direction of national ideology. The formula starts from the land-homeland and heads to God by means of language and face of faith. In the vertical and horizontal schemes, we may mean almost everything. The formula by Ilia Chavchavadze is facing from below to above. If we imagine from above, God, by means of the faith, by means of vertical, using our native language gives us the mean of communication, way to approach Him. As more truthful the faith is as closer comes to 90 grades the line of vertical, raised from the Earth. Land-homeland is the place where passes the life of this world – exam for the people, with whom God speaks in a certain language. Besides of the vertical formula by Ilia Chavchavadze (homeland, language, faith) in our epoch, we may highlight so named horizontal formula, which is spread in the space of the life of this world and complements the vertical formula, adding to it and making together the unifiedvertical and horizontal scheme – nation, community of relatives and family. As we said, the homeland is a space where the nation lives. Homeland is the habitat of a nation carrying certain faith (wisdom). The people, the nation, in its turn is divided into communities of relatives. Communities of relatives are spread in families. If we imagine the horizontal line, coming from the earthy center, the homeland, we’ll see the following picture: homeland and nation are crossed in the same point (the same geographic given) and then the nation is divided into communities of relatives. These communities are divided into families. Families consist of individuals. So we can see the following picture: if the individual has a wish to be connected in full value with the main point of this world (nation-homeland) to connect from here with God in full value, for this aim he has to arrange proper full communication with the family. By means of the family, he has communication with relatives (this is the same for the community or the congregation). By means of a community of relatives, he has communication with the nation (this is the same as the Church) and with the homeland (this is the same as the State). By means of horizontal a nd vertical Trinities of this sort, the individual is connected with God. Missing any point or link, absence or underestimation of any point makes obstacles to the development of the individual, to his service to the nation and God. Each point, each link is the unconditional necessity, irreversibility, natural interlacement. For example, if one has no wife and children by choice he is not able to serve the homeland in full value. His country misses something from him (children) and so does God (the European nations have to multiply). Here we speak about secular class, not about clergy which cares for the strength of families, the strength of communities, unity of the nation, defense of the homeland, blameless of language and strengthening of faith, praying and deeding for them. God set two powers – secular and ecclesiastic for symphonic (harmonic) ruling of nation and homeland – two main supporting points. So for the individual, the best service to God is service to family, a community of relatives, nation, homeland, language, and faith. When someone meets another one with the same surname (or mother’s, or grandmother’s surname) and his heart is not full of pleasure , we may mean that he is not good patriot and Christian. Also, the man who does not care for his homeland’s welfare never can be a good husband or father. So, to save homeland, language, and faith we must save the nation, community of relatives and family, and to save the nation, the community of relatives and family we must save homeland, language, and faith. If we manage to save homeland, language, faith, family, community of relatives and nation we’ll manage to save Europe!
